Flashing your NSLU2 via a Mac – upslug2 binary

// February 24th, 2009 // Uncategorized

If you’re reading this, there’s a reasonable chance you came here via Google I guess… ;-)

I recently got hold of a NSLU2 (aka the ‘Slug’), which is a nifty little linksys box that serves as a NAS server. It’s particularly nifty because with some custom firmware, you can flash it to a full Linux ARM distribution, such as Debian 5.0 Lenny, as detailed on this page. Now, the process is pretty simple, and involves the use of a utility called ‘upslug2′. While upslug2 is available in binary form for Windows and PPC OSX, it’s not available in binary form for Intel OSX, which means you have to download XCode and compile it yourself. Not tricky, but it IS a 900MB download just to compile one app!

Fear not, the solution is here…

Simply click on this link to download a zipped upslug2 binary for Intel OSX.

Enjoy!

    Thanks for the binary, mate. I got problem compiling upslug2-11 from source with Xcode 3.1.2 and macports 1.71. If you can please fix the default Ethernet device from eth0 to en0 in the source. Thanks! :D

    The same day I uninstalled IE8 because it wasn’t displaying pages correctly Zone Alarm Firewall popped up an alert stateing IE was trying to access the internet – after I uninstalled it. I hit the deny button, but needless to say, I’m a little confused here. I’m running Windows XP SP3 on an HP Pavilion d4100e with Avira & ZA anti-virus suites & Windows Defender (they all seem to get along OK) & I run daily anti-virus scans. I uninstalled IE8 using “Add/Remove Windows Components” in the “Add/Remove Programs” feature of Control Panel. Does anyone out there have a clue? I’m posting this before trying my own Google search.

    I have an iPod and it was hooked up to my old computer, but my old computer got a virus and I had to throw it out. I have all of my music on my iPod. I bought a new computer and I downloaded iTunes on it, how can I get the music on my iPod into the iTunes library of my new computer? I’ve done it before, but I have no idea how. It keeps saying that the iPod is already synced to another computer, and asking me if I want to delete all of the music on it. I want to keep the music on my iPod. Please help me, I’d really appreciate it! Thanks!
